SlimMedia includes multiple preset options tailored to different goals: near-lossless archival presets prioritize visual transparency and bit-exact audio for 4K HDR home theaters, while aggressive space-saver presets intentionally compress more heavily to maximize reclaimed gigabytes. You have complete control over the size-to-quality balance.
Do my video files get uploaded to your servers?+
Never. All transcoding occurs directly on your local hardware via the SlimMedia agent. The web dashboard communicates with your agent solely through lightweight JSON telemetry (job status, library file paths, and queue commands). Your media never touches our cloud or leaves your local network.
What happens if I stop using SlimMedia?+
All optimized files remain standard MP4/MKV videos on your disks. Because SlimMedia preserves standard directory structures and container standards, your library continues working seamlessly in Plex, Jellyfin, Emby, or VLC with zero lock-in.
Which GPUs are supported?+
SlimMedia supports NVIDIA NVENC (Pascal through Blackwell architectures) and Intel QuickSync (including Arc discrete GPUs and 7th-gen+ Core processors). Apple Silicon VideoToolbox acceleration is currently under active development and coming soon. Multi-threaded CPU encoding (SVT-AV1 and libx265) is also supported with configurable CPU priority throttling.
How does the agent communicate with the web dashboard?+
The agent connects outward via an encrypted, authenticated WebSocket connection to slimmedia.app. You never need to open inbound router ports, configure NAT forwarding, or expose your NAS or PC to the public internet.
